International Women’s Day is one of the best days of the year. It is so important to celebrate influential women and their achievements. We think it’s so important to celebrate Girl Power that we have our own collection inspired from all the influential women of London.
The Queen of our collection and one of our best sellers is of her majesty. Who is at the heart of London and is the longest reigning monarch ever in Britain. Queen Elizabeth remains the only female royal family member to have entered the armed forces and when visiting the king of Saudi Arabia the Queen climbed into the driving seat, turned the ignition and drove off," he said. "Women are not—yet—allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, and Abdullah was not used to being driven by a woman, let alone a queen!"
A different Queen of our collection is the queen of Soul. Amy Winehouse. One of our shops , Unit 10A in Camden Market is right by her statue so she is really at the heart of our collection. Amy Winehouse has always evoked girl power by doing whatever she wanted and being bad-ass. London’s prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School kicked out for getting her nose pierced according to Rolling Stone.
The Spice girls are probably the most iconic Girl Power symbol. But when they started to become influential they were told “ Girls don’t sell" Sporty Spice says "We would go into magazines and editors would tell us, ‘We can’t put you on the cover because we won’t sell enough magazines that week.’” “That really made us have a bee in our bonnets,” Mel C recalled, “and that’s when we started talking about Girl Power.
And of course the most important girls of all. The girls that run To Home From London. Fun fact: over half of us are women! Bianca our founder, of course paints all the designs in watercolour and started the business herself as a single stall in Portobello market. Now we have 2 shops in Camden, an official licensed TfL range, a card range at Scribbler and lots of exciting things to come. Proving Women can do anything they put their mind to !
